Biography

Erdem AKBAS holds his PhD from University of York, UK (2015) and now works at the Department of English Language Teaching at Erciyes University, Turkey. He has participated and presented his research extensively at various reputable international conferences, and published articles in national and international journals/books. His research interests include Discourse Analysis & Language Teaching; Written Discourse Analysis; Teaching Academic Writing; Language Curriculum Design & Evaluation; Contrastive Rhetoric. Dr. Erdem Akbas co-organized the first-of-its-kind conference on Metadiscourse in 2017 (MAG2017: Metadiscourse Across Genres: Mapping Interaction in Spoken & Written Discourses); published an edited book on Metadiscourse titled Metadiscourse in Written Genres: Uncovering Textual and Interactional Aspects of Texts and edited a special issue on Metadiscourse titled Metadiscourse Variations across Academic Genres: Rhetorical Preferences in Textual and Interpersonal Markers. He is in the editorial team of various international journals as a reviewer, i.e., English for Academic Purposes, Iberica, Lingua, Eurasian Journal of Applied Linguistics, and Journal of Language and Linguistics Studies. Dr. Akbas is also a member of ERUMARG, a research group exploring social interaction with a micro-analytical perspective and group leader of SWADA, focusing on ESP/EAP with our research group by examining spoken and written academic discourses for teaching purposes..
