Biography

Faculty Member Nihal SENGUN

In 1965, she was born in Ordu and completed her primary and high school education there. Between 1977 and 1982, she was a member of Ordu Music Society, taking part as both soloist and chorister. IN 1982, she was admitted to Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Turkish Musical State Conservatory, Faculty of Fundamental Sciences. Between 1982 and 1986, she took part in both school and private choirs. She had worked with Necdet VAROL, Alaeddin YAVASCA, Tulin KORMAN. She graduated from ITU in 1986 with her thesis on Bekir Sitki SEZGIN’s life and works. She continued her musical activities in Istanbul until 1989. She started working as a music teacher at Kayseri Mehmet Akif Ersoy High School in 1989. In 1994, she was appointed to Mehmet Baldoktu High School. Between 1989-1994, she took part in Kayseri Municipality’s Conservatory as an Education Council Member, Choir Conductor and taught on courses on Turkish Musical Theory and Repertoire. She prepared and presented many concerts. Between 1994-1996, she worked at Kayseri Melikgazi Municipality’s Conservatory and was responsible for teaching Turkish Musical Theory and Repertoire. She also took part as an Education Council Member and Choir conductor in Melikgazi Municipality. In 1997, she was awarded with a faculty position at Erciyes University, Faculty of Fine Arts. At Erciyes University, she taught Turkish Musical Theory and Repertoire. She founded and conducted E.U. Classical Turkish Music Band. She was also the conductor of Department of Music’s Classical Turkish Music choir. In 2005, she published her master thesis on ‘The computer supported statistical evaluation and maqam analysis of Selahattin Pinar’s works’and graduated from E.U. Social Sciences Institute, Department of Music. In 2006, she was appointed as a full time faculty member at E.U. Department of Music. She was the deputy president at Department of Music in 1998-2001 and 2005-2008. She published two CDs (‘Classical Turkish Music’ and ‘Chamber Orchestra’) as a soloist for ‘E.U. Culture and Art Activities’ at TRT ANKARA Radio. Since her student years she took part in many concerts and musical activities as soloist, chorister and conductor. In 2008, she was appointed as the president of E.U. Department of Fine Arts, operating directly under the presidency of Erciyes University. Within Department of Fine Arts, university students of different faculties can enroll in free elective courses and take part in cultural projects and activities. She is still an active teaching faculty of E.U. Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Music and E.U. Department of Fine Arts.
