Prof. Dr. Özhan Şimşek is a plant biotechnologist and academic at Erciyes University, Türkiye, specializing in plant tissue culture, molecular breeding, and sustainable agriculture under climate change scenarios. His research integrates advanced in vitro systems, multi-omics, and artificial intelligence to improve crop resilience and productivity.
Over the past years, he has led and contributed to several national and international projects addressing climate-resilient crops, circular bioeconomy, and green agri-technologies, including Horizon Europe, PRIMA, and TÜBİTAK-funded initiatives. He also serves as Türkiye’s delegate to the ESFRI Health & Food Strategy Working Group, representing the country in shaping European research infrastructure strategies.
His work focuses on linking biotechnology, sustainability, and climate adaptation, aiming to accelerate the transition toward environmentally responsible agricultural systems.
