Araştırma alanı olarak, Yönetim Bilişim Sistemleri (YBS) alanında çalışmaktadır. Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Disiplinlerarası Yönetim Bilişim Sistemleri (YBS) ABD Başkanlığını yürütmektedir. Esra Kahya Özyirmidokuz, YBSnin insan, yazılım ve veri alanlarına odaklanmaktadır. Bu çerçevede, sosyo-teknik sistemler, dijital iyi-olma, mutluluk, veri analitiği, veri madenciliği, makine öğrenimi, yapay zeka, NLP gibi başlıklarda araştırmalarına devam etmektedir. Erciyes Üniversitesi #HappyCrowd Araştırma Grubu yürütmektedir.
