We are pleased to share that SWADA members have published their latest article in a prestigious SSCI journal! The article titled "Assembling a justified list of academic words in veterinary medicine: The veterinary medicine academic word list (VMAWL)" by Mustafa Özer and Dr. Erdem Akbaş has been published in English for Specific Purposes as part of its 2024 issue. This paper contributes a discipline-specific word list for veterinary medicine, offering valuable insights for researchers and educators involved in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the field.
Synopsis of their article:
----------------------------------
Özer and Akbaş (2024) developed the Veterinary Medicine Academic Word List (VMAWL) to support learners in the field of veterinary medicine by identifying discipline-specific vocabulary. The study, based on a corpus of over 8 million words, showcases how the VMAWL diverges significantly from generic academic word lists, thereby providing tailored support for veterinary professionals and academics. The VMAWL is expected to enhance veterinary academic literacy and contribute to more effective EAP and ESP teaching materials.
