Prof. Serpil ÖZKILIÇABSTRACTIn the application, body or structures which are exposed to air flow, according to flowdirection with wide sectional area, are the systems called bluff body. Whichever astructure being inside a flow area, is effected by aerodynamic forces. As general theseforces, are determinated by aerodynamic theory and experimental results.In this study, flow parameters around circular cylinder were investigated byexperiments. At the result of experimental study, velocity distribution and turbulencedistribution was performed with hot wire anemometry. First of all, hot wire calibrationwas performed at the center of the flow unit at different velocities and temperatures.After this, hot wire was aligned to the experiment room to flow direction andmeasurement was performed. Surface pressure distribution of cylinder was measuredwith manometer and results were evaluated with the graphics. At the end of theexperiments, observation of vortex shedding in the wake region was aligned by smoke-wire method and flow around the circular cylinder was observed with photographies.Keywords: Bluff Body, Aerodynamics of Bluff Body, Wake Region, Vortex Shedding,Pressure Distribution
