EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT NITROGEN FORMS AND DOSES ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF SILAGE CORN Şakir Murat KARAGÖZ Erciyes University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Master Thesis, August 2018 Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Satı UZUN ABSTRACT Effects of different nitrogen types and doses applied as a side-dressing fertilizer on herbage yield and yield components of silage corn were investigated in this study. Following the pure nitrogen treatment of 7.5 kg/da in the form of 15-15-0+Zn as base fertilizer, ammonium nitrate, urea, ammonium sulphate nitrate with a nitrification inhibitor (3,4-dimethylepyrazole phosphate, 7.5% N-NO3 and 18.5% N-NH4, Entec 26) and urea with a urease inhibitor (NBPT urease inhibitor, UTEC 46) treatments were applied as to have 0, 7.5, 15 and 22.5 kg/da pure nitrogen as a side-dressing fertilizer. Experiments were conducted under ecological conditions of the Yeşilhisar town of Kayseri province in randomized blocks –factorial experimental design with 3 replications in the 2013 growing season. According to the results; plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, the first cob height, leaf ratio, stem ratio, cob ratio, green herbage yields, hay yield, crude protein raito, crude protein yield, crude ash ratio, ADF and NDF were 1.82-2.29 m, 21.04-23.09 mm, 12.00-13.57 leaf, 63.67-99.90 cm, 19.01-22.73 %, 35.01-43.85%, 36.49-45.26%, 4376-6623 kg/da, 950-1564 kg/da, 6.88-8.61%, 65.25-124.71 kg/da, 5.78-6.62%, 18.69-23.73%, 43.98-50.08% respectively. Both the nitrogen types and doses had significant effects on green herbage and hay yields. Increasing nitrogen doses increased green herbage and hay yield. However, 15 and 22.5 kg/da N treatments were in the same statistical group. With regard to type of fertilizer, ammonium sulphate nitrate with 3,4-dimethylepyrazole phosphate and urea with NBPT had the greatest yield.
