Özet:

Turkey is one of the most important producers of apricots, peach, and plum. Plum pox virus (PPV) called also Sharka, is the most important viral disease of stone fruits. The disease does not kill the tree but makes fruits unmarketable. Measuring economic damage potential of PPV in Turkey is the urgent need. In this study, we used the Differences Between Returns and Costs as a measurement of losses profit cause by PPV. Profit (II) is the total value of the product (TVP) less the total factor cost (TFC). The profit functions for the farmer can be written as II = TVP - TFC. This study provides estimates of the impact of the disease in terms of production loss. Overall, this study demonstrates that PPV has a big and serious problem for stone fruit production in Turkey. Key Words: Virus, Apricot, Peach, Plum, Cost, Turkey
