Özet

The Real-Life-Based School Dictionary (RLBSD) is an innovative educational resource developed as an experimental, results-oriented teaching material for contemporary learning environments. It is a dictionary application designed in accordance with lexicographic principles and methods. The RLBSD is based on a special-purpose corpus consisting of natural language data that children aged 6–15 are likely to encounter in educational contexts. In lexicography, needs analysis—an essential component of user research—constitutes a key intersection between dictionary compilers and users in improving dictionary quality. This process depends on the purpose and target audience of the dictionary. Accordingly, identifying user needs plays a central role in dictionary design, and systematic user research is crucial for lexicographers. Without a thorough understanding of user needs, it is difficult to assess the extent to which these needs can be met. This study aims to conduct a needs analysis based on the perspectives of 96 teachers from ten different disciplines who were involved as stakeholders in the user research conducted prior to the development of the RLBSD. It also seeks to evaluate the extent to which the RLBSD meets these identified needs. A qualitative research design was adopted, and data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire consisting of 11 questions. The responses were coded, and content analysis was conducted to determine frequencies and interpret the findings. The results indicate that, based on teacher expectations, the RLBSD has a strong potential to meet the needs identified by users.
