Özet
Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is native to the mountainous regions of central and eastern Mexico, extending to Guatemala and the Pacific coast of Central America. It is a tree species with a wide geographical distribution and diverse appearances. For many years, it has been
cultivated in Turkey, primarily in Mersin and Antalya, as well as many other provinces with a Mediterranean climate, both in open fields and under cover. Chemical fertilizers are generally preferred in cultivation areas. However, as a tree species, the long-term use of only chemical fertilizers can negatively affect the physical, chemical, and biological soil properties of the
cultivated land. Avocado cultivation may not be possible in areas with insufficient soil properties for plant growth, as soil characteristics can affect the aroma and shelf life of the fruit.
The most important soil characteristics that can affect the quality and aroma of the fruit are salinity, pH, and organic matter content. To prevent damage to the fruit and to improve soil properties, animal or plant organic waste can be used as an alternative. However, applying
organic waste homogeneously to the land without processing may not be feasible. Organic waste is converted into pellet form using a pellet press machine, thus increasing its applicability. Pelletized organic waste enhances plant root development, minimizing the impact of drought and sudden temperature fluctuations, and positively affecting fruit set and quality in developing
plants. Due to these many positive reasons, pellet fertilizer applications in avocado cultivation
will be a valuable alternative organic fertilizer form for sustainable and efficient avocado
production, contributing significantly to plant nutrition.
