In order to grasp phonetic structure of the Russian language it’s necessary to know phonetic features of the language and its components. To put it simply, phonetics consists of sounds, sound combinations, stress, rhythm, melody, intonation and pauses. Any language contains a finite number of sounds. Sounds are represented by letters. Emotions expressed in the voice are clarified with the help of punctuation marks. Sound structure of languages is subject to constant change, whereas words’ spelling changes very slowly, so the words’ letter combinations only partially reflect their pronunciation. In Russian there is a big difference between the sound and the letter combinations of a word. The number of letters of a word may differ from the number of its sounds. In particular, vowels, depending on their location and the distance from the stressed syllables, can sound differently. This article focuses on studying difficulties in teaching phonetic structure of the Russian language and techniques facilitating these problems.
