This explorative essay aims to discuss the use of ChatGPT (Generative Pre-Trained Transformer), a natural language processing model, in education. The importance of asking the right question was emphasized for the most efficient use of ChatGPT, which can answer the questions asked in several ways. Moreover, the paper emphasizes that critical thinking skills should be developed to evaluate whether the answers given by ChatGPT are valid or valuable. The actions that can be taken in education to develop research, inquiry, and critical thinking skills were discussed. In this context, the Socratic discussion technique was considered an efficient tool. For future research, the use of ChatGPT, questioning, and critical thinking tendencies should be investigated, as well as how to develop these skills in AI (Artificial intelligence)-based natural language processing models such as ChatGPT.
