Aim. The aim of this study was the investigate of NOS3 -786 T/C polymorphism and HBB -551 C/T polymorphism and the results of expression levels of these genes on the alpine skiing performance. In addition, it was attempted to explain the probable physiological effects of these genes which is efficient on the alpine skiing performance. Methods. A total of 91 volunteer that participated to the study were divided into 4 different groups according to their performance in alpine skiing as the Elite National Group, National Group, Regional Group, and Control Group. Using PCR methods on the blood samples obtained from the volunteers, the NOS3 -786 T/C polymorphism and HBB -551 C/T polymorphism results as well as the expression results for these genes were obtained. Results. NOS3 C/C genotype was found significantly lower in the Elite National Group (p < 0.05), although no statistically significant differences were observed in the other groups in terms of the results for NOS3 -786 T/C polymorphism. HBB -551 C/T polymorphism results had no significant differences in the voluntary groups. In addition, expression results of NOS3 gene and HBB gene had no significant differences in the all groups. Conclusion. The results obtained within the context of our study show that the presence of the NOS3 gene T/T genotype and the absence of the C/C genotype positively affect alpine skiing performance.
