Özet

Purpose: This study was carried out to evaluate the training performed in clinical skills laboratory. It was aimed at learning skills by practice and students' self evaluation of the training process to assess the competency of clinical skills training. Material and Method: Seven hundred and thirty two medical faculty students took part in our study (Nine different clinical skill trained groups consisting of a maximum of 20 students). According to steps previously defined in the practice guidelines, students were expected to gain clinical skills during the training period. Each clinical skill was performed by students at least once. Clinical skills training was carried out completely on anatomic models. Results: All taught clinical skills were taken into consideration and the following points analyzed: the explanation of the aim and targets, duration of training, horizontal integration, properness of equipment used, physical competence, usefulness of the trained skills in future and students' feeling of self competence; very few "completely negative" feed-back was received. The shortness of the duration of the course, distribution of subjects in this period and physical incompetence were subjects which raised most concern among the students. Conclusion: Although clinical skills training was carried out on volunteer students, it was concluded that there had been general acceptance by most of the students. Specific points to be further improved such as the length of training period and physical environment, were determined.
