Why do individuals become religious? Four different theories can respond an answer to this question in the sociology of religion. While deprivation theory searchs that individual religiosty is a result of the compensation that religion provides in situations where individuals meet obstacles in life, Socialization theory claims that long-term training teaches individuals to be religious. However rational choice theory argues that individuals turn to religion because they see that it gives them some sort of benefits or rewards.
