Özet
This study examines whether government effectiveness moderates the relationship between climate vulnerability and inbound tourism performance using annual data from African countries over the period 2002–2020. The findings indicate that climate vulnerability is negatively associated with international tourist arrivals, while government effectiveness is positively associated with inbound tourism performance. The moderation results show that the interaction between climate vulnerability and government effectiveness is positive and statistically significant across alternative estimators, indicating that government effectiveness conditions the adverse relationship between climate vulnerability and inbound tourism performance. The results remain robust after addressing endogeneity, unobserved country-specific heterogeneity, distributional heterogeneity, and major public-health shock years. The evidence highlights government effectiveness as an important conditioning institutional factor in the relationship between climate vulnerability and inbound tourism performance in African countries.
