Özet

Tuberculosis is an important zoonosis threating animal and human health worldwide. It has a worldwide distribution including Turkey. The prevalence of bovine tuberculosis in Kars district was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detecting DNA of Mycobacterium bovis. Eight (6.7%) lung and mediastinal lymph node samples were found to be positive by PCR among 120 carcasses analyzed. Of the PCR positive tissues, only one had a macroscopic pathology lesions similar to that of tuberculosis, five had inflammatory lesions and two had no macroscopic pathology lesions. These results suggest that tuberculosis is an endemic disease in this region and M bovis needs to be considered in disease manifestations and carcass examinations.
