Any wind instrument in the literature and philosophy of ancient Greece is, first and foremost, an important symbolic object. We meet with mentions of several wind instruments. These are aulos (α?λ?ς), syrinx (σ?ριγξ) and salpinx (σ?λπιγξ). Subsequently, however, topic of aulos and its development comes to the fore. The main reason for this was the imbuing this instrument with earthly, ecstatic and even tragic beginning. Another instrument that has been developed deeply in the philosophy in the sense of spirituality and providing the ethical qualities is Syrinx. The ancient greek philosophy put these two instruments in opposite to each other. The exploration of all these oppositions and philosophical relations between musical instruments of Antiquity is extremely difficult. The main difficulty is in the wrong translation of the names of these instruments from the ancient Greek language. This work aims to provide a precise definition of these two instruments, and as a result to identify whether there is a relationship with a modern Kaval and how close it is. Along with the consideration of the physical properties of these instruments will be considered their ethical status that was sketched in the ancient mythology and defined in the philosophy perfectly and deeply.
