Tarihi kökenleri eskiye dayansa da İslamofobi, Batı’da göçmen sorunu, milliyetçi muhafazakâr partilerin iktidara gelmesi gibi birçok sebeple endişe verici bir şekilde artmıştır. Her ülkenin kendine özgü koşulları ve tarihsel bağlamı içinde yaşanan farklı İslamofobi durumları olduğu halde, sadece Batı’daki İslamofobi’den bahsedilmesi, Batı-dışı ülkelerde de benzer bir durum olup olmadığı sorusunu akla getirmektedir. Türkiye’de Rus medyası ve İslamofobi konulu herhangi bir çalışmaya rastlanmaması; modern Rusya Federasyonu’nda İslamofobi’nin kontrolsüz büyümesi ve İslam’ın ülkedeki yaşam tarzının giderek bir tehdit olarak algılanması, çalışmanın önemini arttırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Rusya’daki İslam ve Müslümanlara yönelik toplumsal klişelerin varlığı, Rus Federal devlet televizyonunda yayınlanan “Na krayu” (“Kıyısında”) dizisi üzerinden ortaya konulmak istenmiştir. “Na krayu” dizisinin seçilme nedeni, yakın dönemde çekilen, akşam saatlerinde yani herkese ulaşabilecek bir saat diliminde yayınlanan popüler bir dizi olması nedeniyledir. Dizinin bölümlerin tamamına Youtube üzerinden ulaşılmış ve videolar nitel içerik veri analiz tekniğiyle incelenmiştir.
Islamophobia, whose roots date back to ancient times, has increased alarmingly for many reasons. Among them, there are immigration problems in the West and the rise to power of nationalist conservative parties. Although different kinds of Islamophobia have been experienced within every country's historical context, the sole mention of Western Islamophobia raises the question of whether there is a similar situation in non-Western countries. The absence of any studies on Russian media and Islamophobia in Turkey; the uncontrolled growth of Islamophobia in the modern Russian Federation, and the fact that Islam in Russia is increasingly perceived as a threat, signify the importance of this study. This work aims at revealing the existence of social Islamophobic stereotypes about Islam and Muslims in Russia through the "Na Krayu (On the edge)" series, which was broadcast on the Russian Federal state television. The "Na Krayu" series was chosen due to its popularity, and the fact that it is one the latest serials accessible to the majority of people as being transmitted in the evening time. All the episodes of the series were retrieved by means of YouTube and a qualitative content data analysis technique was applied to analyze the data.
