Özet

The growing consumer demand for safe, high-quality food products has driven the development of active and intelligent packaging technologies that go beyond the functions of conventional packaging systems. In this context, the application of nanotechnology in packaging materials has improved their protective performance and enabled the incorporation of novel functionalities for monitoring food quality and detecting spoilage-related indicators. Furthermore, recent developments in digital traceability applications, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, smart labeling technologies, and sensor-based monitoring platforms, have provided new possibilities for tracking and verifying food products throughout the supply chain. However, nanotechnology-enabled packaging, intelligent monitoring, and digital traceability technologies have often been addressed separately, and their complementary roles in food safety management require a more integrated evaluation. Therefore, this review examines advances in nanotechnology-enabled active and intelligent packaging and their integration with traceability technologies, with particular emphasis on food preservation, quality and safety monitoring, and supply chain transparency. The review also considers the safety and regulatory aspects associated with nanotechnology-based food packaging and the challenges affecting the broader implementation of these technologies. The convergence of nanotechnology-enabled packaging with intelligent monitoring and traceability technologies can facilitate the early identification of quality deterioration and potential food safety risks while enabling more informed and data-driven decision-making throughout the supply chain. Nevertheless, wider implementation requires further progress in technological reliability, safety assessment, regulatory harmonization, and practical applicability. Overall, the integration of these technologies provides a framework for advancing more responsive, transparent, and sustainable food safety management systems.
