Özet

n this study, it was aimed to determine the attitudes of eighth grade students’ parents regarding distance education activities carried out in Turkey during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study was carried out by survey, which is a design of quantitative research method. The accessible population of the study was formed by the parents of the students attending the eighth grade in Kayseri in the 2020-2021 academic year. The target population is composed of parent of eighth grade students in Kayseri Melikgazi district. The sample of the study was composed of 140 parents of students who were eighth graders determined by simple selective sampling. The "Attitude Scale towards Distance Education" developed by Kışla (2016) for pre-service teachers and having a reliability coefficient of .89 was adapted to parents and used as a data collection tool. The scale took its final shape in line with the feedback of two experts in the field of science education. The reliability coefficient of the scale was determined as .93. After this stage, explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for the construct validity of the scale. As a result of the factor analysis, a single-factor scale of 18 items was obtained. After applying the scale to parents in the final version, the data obtained were analyzed in the SPSS 26 package program. It was found that the data showed normal distribution, and therefore parametric tests were used. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the attitude levels of parents towards distance education were low. As a result of the analysis, there was no significant difference between the attitude scores of parents towards distance education in terms of gender, education level, place of residence, and location of the school in which the student attended. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended that the level of attitude about distance education of parents with students at different grade levels, teachers and lecturers should be determined.
