Abstract

Mantled hot water tanks are used commonly in solar
domestic hot water systems (SDHWS). There are three main
inlet and outlet port models for mantled tanks. These are
ordinary, single-piped and double-piped. These types generally
have been selected according to their cost and easy production
by manufacturer. However these inlet and outlet port has
important effect on thermal stratification. In present study effect
of the inlet and outlet ports of mantled hot water tanks on
thermal stratification has been investigated numerically. As a
result, double-piped system has supplied better thermal
stratification, better energy and better exergy amount inside the
tank.
