Abstract

A high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is a major drawback in OFDM systems since it causes nonlinearity in the transmitter, degrading the performance of the system significantly. Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) is one of the best methods in reducing PAPR, in which the subcarriers are divided into M disjoint subblocks, each controlled by a phase rotation factor which brings PAPR down. Although PAPR reduction by PTS is more effective with more subblocks, there is a corresponding exponential increase in complexity. In this study an OFDM system is simulated by computer to allow various parameters of the system to be varied and tested. In simulations Partial Transmit Sequences technique is applied to the model and its performance is evaluated. © 2005 IEEE.
