With the recent development of image manipulation and distribution software, protecting digital images’ copyright and intellectual property rights has become more challenging. One of the most effective approaches that address this problem is robust image watermarking. The fundamental purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the fault tolerance and high data capacity features of QR codes can be utilized in robust image watermarking. This study hence introduces a robust QR code watermarking technique based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) for color images. The proposed scheme first transforms the original host image from RGB to YCbCr color space. It then converts the watermark information to be hidden into a QR code and embeds it into the host image. The results of various experiments on color images reveal that using QR codes as watermarks enables effective extraction of embedded data and improves robustness to different attacks, including histogram equalization, noise insertion, and sharpening.
