Abstract

Abstract: In the present research, the effects of gamma radiation on mitotic index have been investigated. Seeds of Hordeum vulgare L. were treated with different doses of gamma ray (50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 Gy). MI (mitotic index) at embryonic root tip of barley seedling has been decreased with increasing doses of gamma radiation. The inhibitory effects of gamma rays on the mitotic index indicated that gamma rays have mutagenic effects on embryonic roots of barley.
