The founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, once asserted that “A nation deprived of art means one of its vital arteries has been severed”1. The statement demonstrates the essential position of art during the Republican era and highlights the vital role artists played in this cultural framework. Yıldız Kenter (Ayşe Yıldız Akçan2) became a prominent figure who emerged from this vision by advancing Turkish theatre development through her domestic stage work as well as her foreign experience and cross-cultural connections through Rockefeller Fellowship.
