ABSTRACT Background and Aim: We evaluated the accuracy of wrenches from different domestic implant manufacturers. Materials and Methods: Five unused wrenches of each three domestic implant manufacturers (Implant KA, Implance, and Nucleoss) were selected. Two of the wrenches were of the spring style and the other was of the friction style. To measure the peak torque value of each wrench, a digital torque device with a chuck to hold each manufacturer’s driver was used. Force was applied to the wrench until either the spring style flexed to the target torque value or the friction style released at the target torque value. This procedure was repeated five times for each wrench. A one-sample t-test was used to evaluate achievement of the wrench target torque values. One-way ANOVA and independent t-tests were used to compare the percentage of the torque difference among the different wrench types from the different manufacturers (α = 0.05). Results: The Nucleoss friction-type wrenches applied higher torque values than the target torque value, and the Implant KA and Implance spring-type wrenches applied lower torque values than the target torque value (p <0.05). None of the manufacturers achieved their recommended torque values (Implant KA, p= 0.003; Implance, p= 0.001; Nucleoss, p= 0.041). Conclusions: The wrenches from Implant KA and Implance applied lower torque, whereas the wrenches from Nucleoss applied higher torque than their recommended torque value.
