Abstract

The Co(II), Fe(II), and Zn(II) complexes of 1-(3-phenyl)propylbenzimidazole (PPBI), 5-nitro-1-(3-phenyl) propylbenzimidazole (PPNBI), 1-[2-(4-morpholinyl)ethyl]benzimidazole (MEBI), 1-[2-(1-piperidinyl)ethyl]benzimidazole (PEBI), and 5-nitro-1-[2-(1-piperidinyl)ethyl]benzimidazole (PENBI) were synthesized and characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and elemental analyses. The magnitudes of the magnetic moments for paramagnetic complexes were between 4.07 and 5.11 B.M. Moreover, the crystal structure of dichlorobis{1-[2-(1-piperidinyl)ethyl]-1 H-benzimidazole-(K) N-3} zinc(II) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.
