Özet

The irreversible threshold for global warming, 2°C rise in average temperature, is being gradually approached. Humanity will face with a dark and dangerous future if required actions are not taken regarding sustainable development. Although the global community has come a long way in combating environmental threats (e.g., global warming, climate change, ozone depletion, biodiversity loss), there is still much to be done. The purpose of this study is twofold. To better understand the debate, we first review the international efforts on the process of sustainable development and environmental awareness. We, then, discuss the findings of empirical studies that have focused on alternative investigations to reach efficient and permanent solution for the threats. The study concludes with non–energy recommendations.
