Özet

Supply chains (SCs) have traditionally been managed with linear thinking, prioritizing cost minimization and customer value maximization objectives. However, evolving trends, such as the need for a sustainable vision, are reshaping the initial SC objectives. It has therefore become imperative to move beyond traditional SC goals and consider this sustainable vision. Circularity, characterized by zero-waste, regenerative, and restorative practices, presents a viable alternative for reimagining SCs towards sustainability. Managing this integration of circularity into the SCs is termed in the literature as circular supply chain management (CSCM). Though rapidly gaining prominence, literature describes CSCM as emerging, fragmented, and nascent. CSCM is sometimes established as contradictory with various schools of thought about its origin, varying definitions, lack of conceptual clarity, and absence of a unified framework describing its processes. Moreover, it is often confused with other supply chain management (SCM) typologies due to overlaps and a lack of clear distinctions from these typologies. Through a critical evaluation of the existing studies, this study aims to resolve the mentioned gaps and provide a more precise conceptualization of CSCM by uniquely defining and differentiating it from various SCM typologies, resolving confusion, and offering a new propositional framework that gives a more precise perspective on CSCs. Finally, metrics from the framework to measure CSCM maturity are proposed. The study contributes to the field by advancing CSCM knowledge, which is important for its practical application, decision-making, and policy formulation.
