Pristina, which was an important city of Serbian despotism

before Ottoman rule, was conquered together with other cities in the regionin 859 / 1454-1455. After the conquest, many religious temples were built

for Pristina to gain an Islamic identity. Mehmed the Conqueror not only had

a mosque built under his own name, but also completed the construction

of a mosque, that the construction of which was started before the final

conquest. By the middle of the 16th century, the number of mosques and

masjids increased in parallel with the increase in the Muslim population

in the city.

The subject of this paper is the Çarşı Mosque, whose construction

was completed by Mehmed the Conqueror, and which is known by

various names in archive documents and among the public. The mosque

mentioned is in the city center of Pristina, two hundred meters from

Fatih Sultan Mehmed Mosque and one hundred meters from Yaşar Pasha

Mosque. There is uncertainty and disagreement among researchers about

when the construction of Çarşı Mosque started. In this study, with the help

of the information obtained from the archive documents, the mentioned

ambiguity and conflict will be tried to be eliminated.
