Abstract

Various novel pyrimidine-2(1H)-one and pyrimidine-2(1H)-thione derivatives 3a-m have been synthesized efficiently in good yields by the treatment of 4-p-methylbenzoyl-5-p-methylphenyl-2,3-furandione (1a) and 4-(3,4-dimethoxybenzoyl)-5-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2,3-furandione (1b) with some ureas and thioureas 2. Structures of these compounds 3 were established on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, H-1- and C-13-NMR spectral studies.
