Tabibzâde Abdulkerim Pasha was one of those granted the title of Head of the Chaldean Community of Dersaâdet by Abdulhamid II. He served in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Zabtiyeh for twenty-eight years until he was dismissed under the Tensikat Law of 1909 during the Second Constitutional Era. After the 1894 Sasun Armenian rebellion, he served as an interpreter for the Spanish traveler Saturnino Ximénèz (1853-1933) during his year-long journey through Eastern Anatolia. In addition to his work as an interpreter, he was assigned to advise the local population. Due to his success in this mission, he was appointed deputy governor of Van. Alongside his work as a translator for the Zabtiyeh Ministry, he also taught at various schools. At the end of the Second Constitutional Era, he was appointed a member of the Council of State. In the 1923 and 1927 parliamentary elections, Tabibzâde Abdulkerim Pasha, an independent candidate from Istanbul, also authored both published and unpublished works. This study presents an overview of the life of Tabibzâde Abdulkerim Pasha, a notable member of the Chaldean community.
