In two cases of LeFort II fracture, exploration of the infraorbital area showed two distinct infraorbital foramina and correspondingly two separate infraorbital nerves. This variation of the infraorbital nerve was unilateral in one case, and bilateral in the other. Sensory evaluation one month following the surgery using a local anesthetic agent showed that the two nerves each have a different dermatome. The relevant literature was reviewed and the importance of the variation, especially in local infiltration anesthesia, e.g. for rhinoplasty, is emphasized.
