CURRENT ISSUES IN TOURISM, 2025 (SSCI)
There is a research gap regarding the effects of tourism industry on food (in)security, despite the increasing interest in the social impacts of tourism on poverty and inequality in recent years. To address this, the study examines the effect of tourism on food imports and agricultural production across 109 countries from 1995 to 2019 using global panel data analysis. The findings reveal that tourism reduces food imports and stimulates agricultural production. Tourism's role in food security is promising for specific sustainability goals, such as food security, in addition to its economic benefits.
