Özet

Astronomy, one of the oldest sciences in human history, held a significant place in the cultural and scientific life of ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Egypt. This study examines the role of Mesopotamia in the history of astronomy and the relationship between Mesopotamian civilizations and Astronomy. In Mesopotamia, various civilizations including the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Seleucids used astronomy both for timekeeping and for religious and ritual functions. These civilizations developed a systematic accumulation of knowledge by observing celestial events, driven by their profound interest in Astrology, laying the foundations for scientific advancements. Observations, especially of planetary movements and the cycles of the Moon and the Sun, contributed significantly to the development of scientific methods. This scientific heritage of Mesopotamian civilizations formed an important foundation for the shaping of modern astronomy. This study addresses Mesopotamia's contributions to Astronomy and the impact of these contributions on contemporary astronomical knowledge.
