Abstract

The genus Phlomis L. is represented in the Flora of Turkey with 50 taxa having a high endemism and hybridization rate. Phlomis x vuralii Dadandi and its parents P. chimerae Boissieu. and P bourgaei Boiss. were collected from Antalya, southern part of Turkey. The essential oils were obtained from the aerial parts by hydrodistillation and were subsequently analyzed both by GC and GUMS. The main constituent of the hybrid P x vuralii was identified as caryophyllene oxide (16.9%) and the diterpene 8,12-epoxylabd-14-en-13-ol (6.4%) among the 93 compounds of the oil. P. chimerae oil contained beta-caryophyllene (34.7%) and germacrene D (15.7%) as major components. P bourgaei oil was found to be rich in germacrene D (11.3%) and beta-caryophyllene (11.2%).
