Özet

The purpose of this study is to examine the paternalistic management behaviors exhibited by school principals working in secondary schools affiliated to the General Directorate of Basic Education [TEGM] in Kayseri province according to teachers' views and to determine whether teachers' views differ according to gender, branch, seniority, marital status and education level. The research was conducted with the survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The sample in the study consisted of 370 teachers who were actually working in secondary schools affiliated to TEGM in five central districts (Hacılar, İncesu, Kocasinan, Melikgazi, Talas) in Kayseri city center. The data in the study were collected through "Paternalistic Administrator Behaviors Scale [PAYDA]" and "Google Forms" on the internet and analyzed using the Statistical Package Program SPSS 25. In the analysis, "ttest for independent samples and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to reveal statistical differences between variables. According to the results of the study, it was found that school principals occasionally exhibited paternalistic leadership behaviors. Behaviors in the dimensions of paternalistic leadership such as family atmosphere, benevolence and authoritarianism are frequently observed. The behaviors in the interventionism dimension are rarely seen, and the behaviors in the inadequacy dimension are occasionally seen. In addition, a significant difference was found between the opinions of the teachers in the interventionism dimension according to the marital status variable.
