Establishing healthy and effective communication is directly related to the vocabulary of individuals. It is important that the development of individuals' vocabulary in the education process is carried out in mother tongue lessons and based on scientific principles. In this sense, Turkish teachers have important duties. In this study, it is aimed to examine the experiences of Turkish teachers in the process of developing students' vocabulary in a holistic manner. In line with this purpose, phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. Accordingly, a study group was formed in the research. The study group consists of thirty-two Turkish teachers whocontinue their duties in public schools in Kayseri. Snowball sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used to determine the study group. A semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. The collected data were subjected to content analysis. In the study, it was concluded that teachers consider the development of vocabulary important and try to enrich the process with different practices. However, most of the teachers consider middle school Turkish textbooks inadequate in terms of vocabulary teaching. Teachers see not having the habit of reading books as the biggest difficulty encountered in the development of vocabulary.
