Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to introduce the field of Discourse Analysis, its scope and basic concepts in order to discuss how the emphasis on the context is useful for un?derstanding the language in use. Not only does it aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the field but also it presents how it is linked to the language teaching by bringing a range of examples from both written and spoken discourses to illustrate the relationship between language and the contexts of language use.
