Özet

This study aims to ascertain the perspectives of teachers regarding the degree of self-centeredness among their peers employed in public secondary schools associated with the Ministry of National Education in the central regions of Kayseri, including, Kocasinan, Hacılar, İncesu, Melikgazi and Talas. This research adopts a quantitative approach, employing a screening model. For the academic year 2023-2024, the study encompasses a total of 4390 teachers employed in official secondary schools within the districts of Melikgazi, Kocasinan, Talas, İncesu, and Hacılar in Kayseri, constituting the study's population. From this population, a sample group of 400 teachers is selected using a stratified sampling method. The assessment of teachers' perceptions regarding their colleagues' self-interest levels was conducted using the "Selfishness in Education Scale," developed by Çalışıcı Çelik and Kıral (2019). Subsequently, the data collected within the research framework underwent analysis utilizing the SPSS 22.00 statistical software. Within descriptive statistics, the initial phase involves a comprehensive assessment of the scale, followed by a secondary evaluation focusing on sub-dimensions such as sharing, utilitarianism, and causing harm. In inferential statistics, an independent group t-test was employed to identify significant differences between two groups, while a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was utilized to detect variations among more than two groups in the analysis of data exhibiting a normal distribution.   Furthermore, the "Mann-Whitney U Test" was utilized to ascertain significant distinctions between two clusters when analyzing data that did not conform to a normal distribution. Based on the research findings, when analyzing teachers' perceptions of their colleagues' selfishness levels, it was concluded that selfish behavior was observed among "Very Few People." Consequently, a recommendation was made for the Ministry of National Education to arrange training sessions addressing the negative impacts of selfishness on the educational process. These seminars should particularly emphasize concepts of beneficence and harm, ideally conducted at the onset of the academic year.
