Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of vanadium  redox  flow battery  (VRFB) for the different Nafion membrane properties. The most used Nafion membranes in the VRFBs are chosen, such as N105, N112, N115, and N117. To accomplish  this objective, a two-dimensional VRFB model for four different types of Nafion membrane is studied. The models are made by using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.5, under specified boundary conditions and assumptions. The simulation results showed  that the Nafion membrane N105 improved the performance of VRFB than other Nafion membrane types as it has the highest ionic conductivity. The coulombic, voltage and energy efficiency are deeply examined.
