Located in Arabidin Neighborhood of Kocasinan District, Kayseri Province, within the historic settlement fabric of the Erkilet region, Arabidin Masjid is a late Ottoman-period monument commissioned by a benefactor named Hacı Mustafa in AH 1253 / AD 1837–1838. During the nineteenth century, Erkilet was one of the most populous villages of Kayseri, consisting of numerous neighborhood-based settlement units. However, in 1971, the area where the masjid is situated was declared a disaster zone due to rockfall hazards, and the subsequent large-scale abandonment of the settlement led to the neglect of many structures, including Arabidin Masjid, resulting in the gradual deterioration of the region. In 2022, the measured drawing restitution, and restoration projects of Arabidin Masjid were commissioned by the Municipality of Kocasinan. These projects were subsequently submitted to and approved by the Kayseri Regional Council for the Conservation of Cultural Property for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage. The restoration works were carried out by the Municipality of Kocasinan between 2023 and 2024. This study examines in detail the architectural characteristics of Arabidin Masjid, its condition prior to restoration, and the restoration process implemented. The primary aim of the study is to identify the architectural and decorative features of the masjid and to evaluate the restoration interventions in accordance with established conservation principles. The research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing an inductive approach to reach conclusions based on observation and descriptive analysis of the case study. A multidisciplinary framework integrating the fields of art history, architectural history, and conservation-restoration has been adopted. The structure was first examined on-site, with detailed observations conducted regarding its plan, façade arrangements, architectural components, construction materials, and decorative elements. The pre- and post-restoration conditions were comparatively analyzed, , the measured drawing restitution, and restoration projects, damage assessment drawings, structural reports, and the decisions of the Kayseri Regional Council for the Conservation of Cultural Property for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage were thoroughly reviewed. Furthermore, comparisons were made with rural masjids in Kayseri and its vicinity that exhibit similar plan typologies, thereby revealing the position of Arabidin Masjid within the regional architectural tradition.
