PATIENT-CENTERED OUTCOMES IN ORTHOGNATHIC SURGERY: THE POWER OF PREOPERATIVE EDUCATION

This study aimed to evaluate preoperative education's impact on patients' satisfaction levels undergoing orthognathic surgery.

Eighty-two patients who underwent orthognathic surgery between 2023 and 2024 were included in the study. Before surgery, the patients were divided into two groups. The education group received written and visual information about the procedure, while the control group did not. Postoperative satisfaction was assessed using two different validated questionnaires. All data obtained were statically.

A total of 82 patients (41 per group) participated. The education group showed significantly higher satisfaction scores both on the Newcastle scale (80.07 vs. 78.31) and the postoperative satisfaction survey (54.12 vs. 49.43) compared to the control group (p ≤ 0.001), indicating a positive effect of preoperative education.

Preoperative education significantly enhances patient satisfaction following orthognathic surgery. Providing detailed information through written and visual materials improves the patient’s postoperative experience and recovery. Implementing structured educational interventions should be considered in surgical clinical practice.
