A simple, sensitive separation and preconcentration procedure is presented for the determination of copper, iron, and nickel in analytical reagent grade and technical grade ammonium sulphate and ammonium nitrate samples at trace levels by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). The procedure is based on chelate formation of the investigated metals with 4-(2-Thiazolylazo) resorcinol (TAR) and recovery of the chelates from the Amberlite XAD-IB column with 1 M HNO3 in acetone.
