Effect of early diagnosis and treatment on some serum biochemical parameters in postpartum left abomasum displacement in dairy cattle

Özet

Objective: In the postpartum period, left abomasum displacement is more common in dairy cattle. Since it causes significant economic losses, the disease should be diagnosed and treated early. This study aimed to investigate the changes in some biochemical parameters in Holstein breed cows with left abomasum displacement diagnosed and treated very early. Cows showing a tendency to decrease in milk yield were examined for displacement using the herd management system. Materials and Methods: The Liptak test was also applied to the cows with positive auscultopercussion examination results, and 14 cows were diagnosed with left abomasum displacement. Blood samples were taken from these 14 cows with left abomasum displacement (Displacement Group) before the operation (hour 0), and at hours 12, 24, 48, 96, and 144 after the operation to investigate AST, GGT, LDH, CPK, Na, K, Cl, Ca, P, glucose, amylase, lipase, NEFA, and BHBA levels. In addition, blood was taken once from 14 healthy cows (Control Group) on the same farm to investigate the above parameters and compared with the Displacement Group data. In the Displacement and Control Group, animals included in the study, clinical findings such as pulse, respiratory rate, body temperature, and rumen contraction numbers were recorded. Results: As a result, it was revealed that there were no significant changes in many parameters due to early diagnosis and early initiation of treatment by utilizing the herd management system in the case of left abomasum displacement. Conclusion: This study revealed that animals treated with left abomasum displacement treatment with the Grymer-Sterner method can regain their health without significant changes in the biochemical parameters observed in the abomasal displacements, without causing significant economic losses in the animals, and keeping the treatment costs at a minimum level.
