Özet
Divân Lugât at-Turk is one of the most important works of the whole Turkish culture in general and of Turkish language in specific. What distinguishes this work is its presentation of a lot of information that requires meticulous research, analysis, and evaluation. A most valuable aspect of the work, for instance, is the information collected by Mahmûd al-Kâšgarî about various Turkish communities. One of these communities is the Känčäks, who are mentioned only in Divân. This article briefly dwells on the opinions about the origins and history of the Känčäks. It then makes evaluations about the etymology of Känčäk words such as kendük, togri{dotless}l, yudug, kenpe, körke, çaha, çuli{dotless}man, çawli{dotless}, çowli{dotless}, çeşkel, şenbuy, kewli and dünüşge, which are cited by Mahmûd al- Kâšgarî in his Divân. © Ahmet Yesevi University Board of Trustees.
