Özet

The economic fluctuations experienced in recent years have affected the construction industry as all other industries. The construction sector in Turkey is the leading sector of the economy. Every year, job opportunities in the construction sector motivate students to study at the civil engineering departments at the tertiary level. In this study, a survey was distributed to 370 civil engineering students to measure their level of awareness of the career choices, and to determine their career expectations and goals. The results obtained from the survey were evaluated in terms of percentage-frequency and the median results were presented. The students were asked about their post-graduation occupational preferences, which were analyzed through the Thurstone's case V technique. The exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and construct validity analysis were applied to the data and the results were discussed. The hypothesis tests revealed a significant difference by previous work experience, the love of profession, and the status of the country and sector.
