Özet

PARODY IN TOM STOPPARD’S THE REAL INSPECTOR HOUND AND FERHAN

ŞENSOY’S FİŞNE PAHÇESU

Over the years, parody has become a common way of expression and has

been used by many playwrights from ancient Greece to the present. This study aims to

research parody in the history of drama: Ancient, medieval, Elizabethan and Jacobean, the

nineteenth century, modern and postmodern. Furthermore, the study aims to read postmodernism.

parody in the renowned British playwright Tom Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound (1968)

And Turkish Ferhan Şensoy's Fişne Pahçesu (2000). The cultural background and language of

The works are quite different from each other. Still, they share something in common: using

parody for social and economic inequality, corrupted government systems, and awakening

humanity about their rights. In addition to these similarities, both authors have distinctive

forms and styles. The Real

Inspector Hound is a parody of Agatha Christie's 1952 play The Mousetrap. Fişne Pahçesu is

a parody of Chekhov's 1904 play The Cherry Orchard. Although many academic studies on

Stoppard and Şensoy have received considerable attention from Turkish academia; this study

will be the first to compare these two authors.
