Özet
Bu çalışmada, çağdaş analitik metafiziğin merkezi tartışmalarından biri olan metafiziksel temellendirmenin modal statüsü incelenmektedir. Türkçe literatürde konuya dair çalışmaların sınırlı olması nedeniyle, çalışmada öncelikle temellendirme kavramının teorik çerçevesi çizilmiş; ardından ilişkinin modal doğası, zorunluluk ve olumsallık ekseninde tartışmaya açılmıştır. Temellendirmenin zorunlu olup olmadığı sorunu; yalnızca ilişkinin mantıksal özelliklerini değil, aynı zamanda metafiziksel açıklamanın kapsamını ve sınırlarını belirlemesi bakımından da kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Bu bağlamda çalışma, ilgili tarafların argümanlarını sistematik biçimde değerlendirerek temellendirmenin modal statüsüne ilişkin nihai bir sonuca ulaşmayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmanın temel tezine göre; modalite tartışmalarında odaklanılması gereken asıl husus, her tür açıklama değil, spesifik olarak “tam ve metafiziksel temellendirme”dir. Bu perspektiften bakıldığında, olumsalcıların başvurduğu karşı örneklerin önemli bir kısmının; ya tam temellendirme vasfı taşımadığı ve yalnızca zemin hazırlayan kısmi destekler sunduğu ya da esasen metafiziksel bir karakter arz etmediği görülmektedir. Zira normatif, kurumsal, salt nedensel ve epistemik açıklamalar, metafiziksel temellendirmenin yerini tutamaz. Metafiziksel temellendirme söz konusu olduğunda, temellendiren ile temellendirilen arasında “içsel bir bağın” bulunması elzemdir. Bu bağ; dışsal bir kural, sözleşme ya da tesadüfi bir birliktelik ile kurulamaz; aksine açıklanan olgunun “neden ve nasıl ondan geldiğini” özsel düzeyde belirleyen kurucu bir bağlantıyı gerektirir. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma; tamlık ve içsel bağ ölçütlerini karşılayan her metafiziksel temellendirmenin, doğası gereği zorunlu olduğunu savunmaktadır.
This study investigates the modal status of metaphysical grounding, which constitutes one of the central debates in contemporary analytic metaphysics. Due to the limited number of studies on this subject in the Turkish literature, the study first outlines the theoretical framework of the concept of grounding, and subsequently opens its modal nature to discussion within the axis of necessity and contingency. The question of whether grounding is necessary bears critical importance not only for determining the logical properties of the relationship but also for illuminating the scope and limits of metaphysical explanation. In this context, the study aims to arrive at a definitive conclusion regarding the modal status of grounding by systematically evaluating the arguments advanced by the relevant parties. According to the main thesis of the study, the focal point in modality debates should not be any type of explanation, but specifically “full and metaphysical grounding.” From this perspective, it is observed that a significant portion of the counter-examples employed by contingentists either lack the qualification of full grounding—providing merely partial supports that prepare the ground (enabling conditions)—or do not exhibit an essentially metaphysical character. Because normative, institutional, merely causal, and epistemic explanations cannot substitute for metaphysical grounding. In the case of metaphysical grounding, the existence of an “internal relation” between the ground and the grounded is essential. This relation cannot be established by an external rule, convention, or accidental conjunction; on the contrary, it requires a constitutive connection that determines “why and how the grounded proceeds from the ground” at an essential level. Consequently, this study defends that every metaphysical grounding that meets the criteria of fullness and internal relation is necessary by nature.
